The World's Worst Recipe

This morning as I watched the news while skimming all your thoughts on Paris in an attempt to wrap my head around everything, my sons asked me how the world had come to this point. At first I dodged their inquiry because it’s such a difficult recipe of events to explain. Then I thought I should try my best as they deserve to understand the landscape in which they will grow into adulthood in. 

Here is my attempt at the recipe. Feel free to add in ingredients. Please excuse my faux pas in thinking out-loud and making mistakes due to my own ignorance on all the facts.

Pre-preperation: Combine a strategic disaster and the destabilization of a country, making it a safe haven and recruiting ground. Place in a slow cooker. 

In a bowl: Mix together until well blended, a leader who’s ordered a brutal crackdown on his own people, resulting in the killing 250,000 and displacing 11 million, whether internally or as refugees. Add to mess in cooker. Allow strangers to stir.

Note: This works best in middle of a drought. War and corruption often thrives during times of climate crisis.

Cover and cook on HIGH for 4 years, and 7 months. Check on it occasionally when the Red Cross declares your entrées a civil war, being careful not to burn yourself when drone strikes go astray, inadvertently spotlighting how un-precise and dangerous this practice is to un-armed civilians. 

Remove mess and shred using the hijacking of a religion and it’s outdated medieval concept that no man-made law may ever be held above the laws of God. Discard bones.

Continue cooking until the rage has thickened. Bring to slow-boil, carefully dissolve in financing by Saudi Arabia, an extremist, corrupt dictatorship which supports an anti-Shia jihad, in order to thwart attention away from their own internal problems. (This is the most delicate time in the recipe. As one needs to ignore the fact that none of us want to take responsibility that all of us on this planet has sold part of our souls for easy access to Saudi and Middle Eastern oil.) 

Remove from heat. Do no let mess rest. Transfer mess immediately to social media boards. Carve up into digestible and accessible morsels.

Before serving: Add earnest prayer to taste, and sprinkle on the snarky scorn of skeptical liberals, against the hawkish scream for action by conservatives, tired of having been benched.

Best paired with: Extreme denial that violence is mostly a manly affair. A brutal, bloody, humiliating manly affair that serves to control and victimize women, children and the innocent - at the hands of those, whose estrangement from their own societies - boils so deeply and heatedly - that they can justify all human rights abuses.

Serving size: Actually serves no one.
