I do a podcast called Beauty and Da Beast. This coming month we are going to have our one year anniversary. I'm so lucky that my co-host is Joey "Coco" Diaz. (Btw - he also brings most of the audience.) We are almost at 750,000 downloads, at the year mark. It's been a total blast and a sweet and restless monkey on my back at the same time.
For those of you not in the comedy biz - as a comic it's so important to seek out ways to go about publicity. This helps ticket sales when traveling on the road to do gigs.
I met Joey years and years ago, while I was on the road in Colorado, during my first go around at comedy. He had just gotten out of prison and was an open miker at the club I was performing at. I casually said to the club owner as I was getting paid at the end of the week, "Hey, that kid Diaz is funny. You should work him more." Little did I know that is what actually happened, once I left to the next gig. Joey never forgot it.
We ran into each other again about two years ago. I had recently gotten divorced from my husband who was doing quite well on the business end of comedy. Needless to say, not many comedians made their way to my door step after my divorce. When I decided to go back into comedy a year later, it was Joey who called me up and that's how it all got started.
Hooray for saying a kind word about a stranger, just because it was the right thing to do. Something good certainly circled back in my favor.
Anyway, if you have a dark and dirty sense of humor, this might be the podcast for you. In fact, the podcast has strangely turned inspirational. When people ask me what it's about. I tell them it like Dr. Phil for c*cksuckers!
No hurt feelings all around if it's not your kinda of thing.
